At present，as many as 54，000 remote−controlled cassetteless X−ray TV tables are in use in hospitals and clinics throughout Japan. This outline has traced the history of the development of diagnostic imaging in Japan. In summary，the main player has been X−ray imaging，and the main objectives were the diagnosis of tuberculosis and the early detection of gastric cancer in 1950’s to 1970’s.
