Last year, we cancelled the International Technical Exhibition of Medical Imaging (ITEM 2011) because of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Alternatively, we held "eITEM 2011" on the Web site from May 9 to August 8, which attracted 63 companies and organizations as well as many visitors with the successful result. We donated the partial amount of the charge of "eITEM 2011" exhibition and the whole amount of participant registration fee to the Japanese Red Cross Society as a contribution to the Great East Japan Earthquake.
We will open ITEM 2012 from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 April at the Pacifico Yokohama Exhibition Halls this year. This is the largest comprehensive exhibition of medical imaging systems in Japan. It will be held concurrently with the annual meeting of Japan Radiological Society (JRS), the annual scientific congress of Japanese Society of Radiological Technology (JSRT), and the scientific meeting of Japan Society of Medical Physics (JSMP). The organizer will be Japan Radiology Congress (JRC), which consists of the above-mentioned three societies (JRS, JSRT, JSMP) and JIRA. JIRA will take charge of the management of exhibition.
The theme of JRC 2012 (composed by the meetings of the three societies and the exhibition) is "Design the Future of Radiology.” In ITEM 2012, we will show that the medical imaging systems are advancing for the future in accordance with development/progress of medical technology and IT, and continue to improve QOL and quality of medical care globally. For that purpose, ITEM 2012 will exhibit new products and technologies, and propose solutions. This exhibition will have the exhibition floor of 16,700 square meters and be joined by 142 companies and one organization (137 companies in 2010) including those from Asia, Europe and America. The exhibits are classified into the three main groups. The first group, “diagnostic imaging systems/therapy systems and its related items” includes diagnostic X-ray systems, X-ray CT, MRI, PET-CT/MRI, diagnostic ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and radiation therapy systems. The second group, “medical imaging IT systems” includes image processing systems and computer-aided diagnosis systems. The third group, “medical information systems”, includes EMR, on-line receipt systems, hospital information systems, and local area network systems.
JIRA will install "JIRA Planning Corner" near the center of exhibition area. Here, companies with smaller booth area will present or demonstrate their products and technologies. Also, there will be the rest area near here so that visitors can rest freely.
Moreover, JIRA will install "JIRA Booth" near the main gate of hall to show the activities of JIRA’s divisions and committees, which are engaged to develop/expand the medical imaging industry and to strengthen JIRA’s foundation.
In addition, by considering the Great Earthquake of last year, we have taken every possible measure to ensure safety of visitors at the time of emergency. All the doors at the aisle side will be kept open to ensure passage. The instructions for evacuation routes and wide evacuation areas will be put up near the main gate. The instructions for evacuation routes will be put up also at each aisle. Furthermore, on the day preceding ITEM opening, all the people involved in the exhibition will participate in the joint drill for emergency.
The number of visitors has increased every year, especially from China, Republic of Korea, and other Asian nations. We plan to attract more than 21,000 visitors this year. We hope that many visitors will have a chance to see exhibits and demonstration, to confirm the recent progress of medical imaging systems and the related IT systems, and to envision the promising future.
